Our Isle of Islay holiday cottage is in a superb location. We are 200 metres from the famous Bowmore Whisky Distillery. And the whisky experiences are well worth booking. Being so close, you can enjoy a dram or two and stroll back to the comfort of your delightful self-catering cottage on Islay.

Bowmore is the main village on Islay and is the historic centre of our great island. The main island shops are located here, and there is a great variety of shops, restaurants and pubs in which to sample local produce. The Round Church dates from 1767 and is the focal point of the village. It is well worth a visit to marvel at its architecture and design. Bowmore Distillery was founded not long after in 1779 and is the oldest distillery on Islay, arguably in the world. Furthermore, Ceilidhs are often held in the village hall and are a great way to take part in traditional Scottish dancing.

And when you head home, with electric central heating throughout and an open fire for coal or peat, you will be nice and cosy. We provide initial supplies of coal/peat, but you will need to purchase any additional amounts at your own expense.

Bowmore is the perfect centre for exploring the island. As mentioned, there is Bowmore Whisky Distillery on your doorstep. But there are another 8 to explore. And the south coast distilleries are an easy bus ride away, so you can still enjoy a tasting. The service also passes Bruichladdich and up to Caol Ila.  And if you want to explore the outdoors, there are numerous walks and 23 beaches to roam. An abundance of wildlife and nature inhabits the island, with many fascinating species to be seen. And of course, there is the history. This island’s earliest inhabitants date back as far as 8000BC. Directions to our holiday cottage on Islay, Scotland

For your sat nav, our postcode is PA 43 7JP. From both arrival ports, follow the signs to Bowmore. From Port Askaig, on entering Bowmore, you will drive along Shore Street. At the first corner, turn right into the square. Dundonald is to the right of the Harbour Inn hotel. From Port Ellen, on entering Bowmore, you pass the round Church at the top of the hill. Follow the road down heading for the pier, and Dundonald is on the right next to the Harbour Inn.
