Dundonald: cosy cottage - great location
Dundonald: cosy cottage – great location. We stayed at Dundonald in August for a week. We expected the cottage to be nice, and were still very pleasantly surprised when we arrived – really cosy, characterful, spacious, well-furnished, and with a lovely garden with a great sea view. The location is great – central on Islay, and handy for exploring anywhere on the island by car. (Would also recommend the nearby Bowmore distillery – one of the more interesting we visited in terms of its historical displays.)
Gillian was courteous and helpful on emails, and Sharon (from the excellent nearby Peatzeria) was on hand to help with queries. In fact, when we had some car trouble, Sharon was really helpful in helping us to get it sorted. All perfect for our needs. Thanks for the stay – we’d love to return someday.

Dundonald Cottage…very cosy cottage in a great location. The cottage is in the very heart of Bownore and is very well appointed. There is a large lounge with comfortable sofas and an open fireplace, which was lovely to sit in front of and enjoy a dram. The kitchen had everything you could need for your stay. The cottage was very clean and is well looked after. Would definitely stay there again.
Beautiful Islay
Dundonald is a high-quality rental property centrally located in Bowmore. The property was spotlessly clean with all amenities included, even a welcoming bottle of wine and chocolates. Great back garden with terrific views across Lochindall. It was highly recommended and lived up to all its expectations. Visitors’ book is filled with positive reviews. Islay was a great place to holiday, and the accommodation was the icing on the cake
Great base for any stay on Islay
Great base for any stay on Islay. Dundonald cottage is well equipped and very comfortable and has a nice garden to sit out in. This was our second stay here and we’re already looking to book again for next year. It’s very central and close the harbour, shops and distillery at Bowmore

We stayed in Dundonald Cottage in Bowmore and had a lovely time. The cottage couldn’t be more central in town – really useful location. Very spacious lounge and all very well appointed. Easy parking on the street outside.

Dundonald Cottage – A great place for a couple to stay in Bowmore. We had a lovely week on Islay, staying at Dundonald Cottage in Bowmore. The cottage is very well appointed with plenty of room and in a perfect location in the heart of the town – close to everything but still private and comfortable.
Dundonald review
We had the most amazing time in Islay and stayed at Dundonald in Bowmore. The house is walking distance to the local shops and takeaways, which we used daily. We had no issues with local parking at the house. We enjoyed lots of walks and visited the Peatzeria for food and coffee, which is highly recommended.

We’ll be back next year! This was our third stay at the cottage in the last three years. We love Islay and Dundonald is an ideal base as it’s spacious (with a large utility room and loads of storage space) and well decorated and maintained throughout. Bowmore harbour is only 50yds away and the sunsets across Lochindaal are spectacular.
Great stay in Dundonald Cottage
Great stay in Dundonald Cottage. Very comfortable and large house in the centre of Bowmore, ideal base for exploring the island. A large, comfortable living room, a large and very well-equipped kitchen, utility room large enough for anything you might want to store. Good-sized garden with picnic bench and partial view of Loch Indaal. Two large and comfortable bedrooms. One bathroom downstairs. There were only two of us, but the house is easily big enough for four adults. No fuss at all from the owners. Always easy to park outside. Would strongly recommend.
Dundonald Cottage Bowmore
We had a great stay at Dondonald Cottage in Bowmore. It’s a great base from which to explore Islay, and all the amenities in Bowmore are within a couple of minutes’ walk. There is an electric car charging just across the road. The Co-op is open from 07:00-22:00 every day and is well stocked. The Peatzeria restaurant is highly recommended.
The house itself is very clean, spacious and well-equipped. We stayed as a couple, but there’s more than enough room for four. The views across the loch at the back are nice, with a table and bench in the garden (not that we sat out much in March!). The fire was set when we arrived and was nice to add to the cosy feel of the house, which was always warm, whatever the conditions outside. Communication with the host was clear and comprehensive in advance, and a small issue with an appliance was dealt with quickly and smoothly. Overall, very highly recommended and we’d certainly stay here again if coming back to Islay.

Fantastic stay at Dundonald! – We stayed in Dundonald Cottage in Bowmore for a week. Really nice house, right in the heart of Bowmore. The house was bigger than we’d expected and had plenty of room. There was every amenity you could ask for, everything was spotlessly clean, and the facilities were top-notch. There is a lovely garden area that leads down to be shore of Loch Indaal, which we unfortunately didn’t really get to make best use of due to the cold and windy weather. But it’s a 2-minute walk to the Bowmore distillery, so that made up for it! Bowmore itself is a great place to stay as it’s right in the middle of Islay. Very easy to get to all areas of the island, and it has a reasonable selection of restaurants. The distillery is a must-visit. We had a great stay on Islay, despite the inclement weather. A lovely house in a lovely town on a lovely island.
A wonderful place
A wonderful place – Superb, comfortable cottage in the heart of beautiful Islay. Everything had been thought of in Dundonald, and we could not have been better looked after. Bowmore is a great centre to stay in, with lots of friendly locals. Lots to do and see, marvellous beaches, and,of course, the distilleries. One of the best.
